Pedrosa fastest on day one at Motegi

30/09/11 - 12:00

Dani Pedrosa led a Repsol Honda top three on day one of the Grand Prix of Japan, with Casey Stoner second and Andrea Dovizioso following in third on the timesheet.

The MotoGP class headed out for the second free practice session on Friday afternoon under cloudier skies than the morning run, and all but one of the riders in the field improved upon their earlier times with the top four spots of the day going to Honda machines.

Pedrosa took over the top spot with 21 minutes to go and set a new fast lap of 1?46.790 ahead of team-mate Stoner by a margin of 0.054s. Dovizioso followed with a 1?46.952, an improvement of eight-tenths over his FP1 time, with San Carlo Honda Gresini Team?s Marco Simoncelli occupying the fourth spot after leading in the early part of the session.

Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing) was fifth in the combined times, posting a lap of 1?47.310, six-tenths better than his earlier time, while Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team), who had been third in FP1, bettered his earlier time by four-tenths to end the day in sixth.

Hiroshi Aoyama (San Carlo Honda Gresini) stepped up his pace by a full second, putting the Japanese rider seventh with a time of 1?47.785, two-tenths ahead of Ducati Team?s Valentino Rossi in eighth. Hctor Barber (Mapfre Aspar) ended the day ninth just 0.02s ahead of Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) in tenth.

Yamaha Factory Racing?s Ben Spies was the sole rider who did not improve in the outing. The American ended the session early having completed just five laps after exhaustion got the better of him ? he had been taken ill on the flight to Japan. Spies visited the medical center and will try to rest enough to participate in tomorrow?s sessions.

Interwetten Paddock Moto2 rider Thomas Lthi put in a strong performance on Friday posting the fastest time of the day with a 1?53.002 in the afternoon outing. Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) stepped into second in the combined times with a 1?53.182, and Yuki Takahashi (Gresini Racing) laid down a flyer in the last seconds to land him third.

Dominique Aegerter (Technomag-CIP), who celebrates his 21st birthday today, topped the session at the 15-minute mark and held the lead spot with consistent fast laps until getting bumped down the line and ending up one-tenth of a second behind the Japanese rider to end the day in fourth.

Pol Espargar (HP Tuenti Speed Up) picked up his pace by a second from the morning to take fifth in the combined times, 0.057s ahead of the morning?s fastest rider Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing). Seventh went to Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX), whose time of 1?53.583 was five-hundredths quicker than Championship contender Marc Mrquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol), followed by Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing) in ninth and Aleix Espargar (Pons HP 40) in tenth.

Andrea Iannone (Speed Master) was unable to improve on his FP1 effort, lapping a tenth slower to land him 11th for the day, followed by Xavier Simeon (Tech 3 B) and Takaaki Nakagami, who replaces Claudio Corti on the Italtrans Racing team for this round.

Maverick Viales (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing) streaked to the top of the 125cc afternoon session, only the remarkable rookie?s second session around the Japanese track. The 16 year-old posted the best lap of the day with a 1?59.273, which placed him 0.163s faster than Championship leader Nico Terol (Bankia Aspar).

Terol, whose best effort of the day came in the morning session, was 0.083s quicker than Johann Zarco (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) who was third in the combined times having posted the second-best lap in the afternoon.

Jonas Folger (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport) was fourth quickest overall, posting a time of 1?59.850, with Alberto Moncayo (Andalucia Banca Civica) trailing by four-tenths behind the German to end the day in fifth.

A tightly bunched Spanish group followed with Adrin Martn (Bankia Aspar) just 0.027s ahead of team-mate Hctor Faubel, with Luis Salom (RW Racing GP) trailing just seven-thousandths of a second behind Faubel.

Sandro Cortese (Intact Racing Team Germany) was ninth in the combined times with a 2?00.506 with Efrn Vzquez (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) ending up tenth for the day after crashing early in the afternoon session and being taken to the medical centre for a check up.

Pedrosa wins in Portugal

Estoril podium - Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Stoner

Dani Pedrosa got first taste of victory in 2011 in Estoril today, as he rode smart race in which he followed Lorenzo for the most of the race before making his move and disappearing in distance with five laps remaining. Lorenzo rode strong race, but he was unable to respond to Pedrosa once he got in front. Jorge Lorenzo still leads championship from Pedrosa by 4 points, while Casey Stoner, who rode lonely race to third place, trails Lorenzo by 24 points.

Another rider for which great strategy worked out was Andrea Dovizioso, who was unable to get in front of Valentino Rossi throught the race, but used draft from Rossi in final corner and crossed finish line 0.025 before Rossi. Rossi had to settle in 5th place, obviously being unable to do more with current state of his Ducati. Colin Edwards finished in lonely 6th place, which Hiroshi Aoyama fought his way through the field to 7th place. Cal Crutchlow took settled in 8th place, with Nicky Hayden and Randy de Puniet completing top 10 finishers in Estoril.

News ? Hopkins and Rizla Suzuki back together at Sepang

#Hopkins and Rizla Suzuki back together at Sepang

John Hopkins will re-join the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team as a wild-card rider in Sepang for the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday 23rd October.

Hopkins will make a welcome return to the Rizla Suzuki squad for his second wild-card event of the season. His first event was at Brno where he unfortunately crashed and injured his right hand in a practice session. He had shown huge potential during the first day and had finished in 10th place on the time-sheets, but his injury on day two stopped the Anglo-American from showing what he might have achieved after a full weekend on-board the Suzuki GSV-R. Hopkins has already completed a MotoGP race this season, after he deputised for lvaro Bautista at Jerez and scored a creditable 10th place at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Hopkins is currently leading the British Superbike championship onboard his Suzuki GSX-R1000 with the Samsung Crescent Racing team. The final event of the season will see him compete in a triple-header race weekend at Brands Hatch in England on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th October, as he attempts to secure the championship during his debut season.

John Hopkins:

?I am really pumped to get this chance to ride in a MotoGP race with the Rizla Suzuki team. I thought after Brno that I wouldn?t get the opportunity again and was really disappointed that I missed out there due to a silly mistake, so to be heading to Sepang is fantastic. It is one of my favourite tracks and I know it well because we used to test there a lot. My main focus is on the British Championship at the moment, but as soon as that is over I will be in MotoGP mode and putting all my efforts into getting a good result at Sepang and showing that I can perform at the highest level. I really want to get back into MotoGP and this is a great chance to show what I can do.

?Again I need to thank everyone at Rizla Suzuki for giving me this opportunity and my Samsung Crescent team ? I hope that by the time I get back on the MotoGP bike we will have been celebrating something really big at Brands Hatch!?

Paul Denning ? Team Manager:

?We?d intended to give John at least one outing on the Rizla Suzuki Grand Prix bike this year and we?re delighted that he?ll join us in Malaysia to form a two?man team with lvaro. Sepang is one of John?s favourite tracks and also one that the GSV-R has performed well at in the past. What happened in Brno ? with John?s injury ? and the way he has worked so hard to come back from it, and challenge for the British Superbike Championship, has only reaffirmed his commitment to success and getting back to the top level. Let?s hope at Sepang we manage to line up at the start of the race with two Rizla Suzukis and that lvaro and John can show what they and the team are all capable of producing.?

Sixth fastest Hayden has 'fun' on Motegi day one

"I've certainly had worse Fridays this year, but we've got a long way to go if we want to be near the front on Sunday afternoon" - Nicky Hayden.

Nicky Hayden put in an encouraging performance during day one of the Japanese Grand Prix, when he led the Ducati challenge in both of Friday's free practice session at Motegi.

The American was third in FP1, then sixth in FP2, when he trailed Honda's Dani Pedrosa by 0.591sec.

?I had fun riding the bike today, and that's important," said Hayden. "This morning was really encouraging, because I could ride comfortably, and we really haven't made many changes throughout the day. I've steadily got a little bit faster, but the others made a bigger jump in the afternoon.

"I've certainly had worse Fridays this year, but we've got a long way to go if we want to be near the front on Sunday afternoon. We've got a couple of small ideas to try to improve the bike under braking. As hard as Ducati has worked to try to help us, it would be really nice to give them a result they deserve.?

Hayden is riding with the full carbon-fibre chassis on his GP11.1. Factory team-mate Valentino Rossi was eighth fastest (+1.185sec) at the start of his second event with the new aluminium front-frame.

?We made progress with the bike throughout the day, and as a result we improved our lap times, dropping below 1min 48," said Rossi. "The pace is still far from the top, but not bad for now. There are a number of things to resolve, but we're definitely not in the situation we were at Aragon, where we always had big problems with rear grip. That's not the case here.

"We worked on weight distribution, loading the front a little more, and it's better. Tomorrow we must try to drop into the low 1min 47 range. That's our goal. Nicky is already there [1min 47.3], although he chose to ride mainly with the soft tyre. The track is good. The asphalt has good grip, and they did a good job.?

Since the start of the four-stroke MotoGP era in 2002, Ducati have been the most successful manufacturer at Motegi with four victories - including last season, with Casey Stoner.

Honda riders have won on three occasions and Yamaha twice.

2011 Magny-Cours World Superbike FP1 Result: Checa Holds Off Sykes And Corser

Carlos Checa has topped the timesheets for the first session of free practice for the World Superbike class at Magny-Cours, the Althea Ducati rider taking back top spot from a host of challengers. Kawasaki's Tom Sykes ended the session in 2nd, ahead of a brace of BMWs, Troy Corser just nipping ahead of his teammate Leon Haslam, after Haslam led the session in the latter stages. The only man standing between Checa and the championship, Yamaha's Marco Melandri, got off to a very rough start, ending FP1 down in 15th. Reigning World Superbike Champion Max Biaggi has been forced to sit out the weekend once again, his broken foot still not healed properly.

Burgess Plea for Change

September 7th, 2011

From Matthew Birt in MCN, the starkest statement yet that Ducati needs to change direction:

We need to make some bigger steps and that is up to Ducati. We?ve moved the bike around in all shapes and positions, as has every other guy riding the Ducati. When we look at the settimgs [sic] used by Casey (Stoner) we can put those in too. But it gets to a point where you don?t do anymore.

WSBK heads to Magny-Cours for penultimate showdown

sbk_imola_race2_start_newsSpain’s Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) will need to pick up just three points in this weekend’s penultimate round at Magny-Cours to become the first Spanish rider to take the World Superbike title in the championship’s 24-year history. Once again therefore the circuit on the outskirts of Nevers in central France becomes the venue for the deciding round, even though the outcome is bordering on certainty for Checa.

With Max Biaggi abdicating his 2010 title at Imola, the only rider now left with a mathematical chance of eclipsing Checa is Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team), but the Italian was in difficulty last weekend and is coming to a circuit that he has never ever seen before. For his part Biaggi will again miss a race, his second in just one week, due to the as yet unhealed bone fracture in his left foot.

The Ducati machines traditionally go well at Magny-Cours and Sylvain Guintoli (Effenbert – Liberty Racing) will be doing his best to bring home a maiden WSB win in front of his home crowd. The Frenchman was just beaten for the podium by Michel Fabrizio last year on his Suzuki.

All eyes will again be on Imola race 1 winner Jonathan Rea (Castrol Honda) after the young Northern Irishman showed last week that he has fully recovered from his Misano crash injury and that his Honda CBR machine is still a winning performer, especially with the new ride-by-wire system. Another British rider in great form is Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team Superbike), who won at the Nurburgring and then set pole at Imola, while Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport), following an encouraging fifth place last week, is now looking to finish off the remaining four races with the best possible results.

In Biaggi’s absence, Melandri’s team-mate Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike Team) now has every chance of fighting for the overall third place slot. But the competition for the top positions will be tough this weekend, starting with Noriyuki Haga (PATA Racing Team Aprilia) who has now re-emerged as a race win contender on a superbly prepared Aprilia machine in this final part of the season. Two second places at Imola were an excellent example of Haga’s fighting spirit and the Japanese rider is a wily veteran of the Magny-Cours track.

Hopkins To Get Another Wildcard At Sepang

John Hopkins continues to sidle up to a MotoGP ride for 2012. After replacing Alvaro Bautista at Jerez and then entering as a wildcard at Brno, the current BSB championship leader is set for another wildcard aboard the Rizla Suzuki, this time at the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang. Hopkins will line up in Sepang alongside Bautista again, as he did at Brno, though he will be hoping for a better outcome, the American unable to race in the Czech Republic after crashing out during practice on the Saturday of the Brno meeting.

By the time Hopkins flies out to Malaysia, the British Superbike Championship - in which he is currently competing for the MotoGP team's Crescent Suzuki sister squad - should have concluded, with Hopkins the hot favorite for the title. Hopkins will then be free to start concentrating on 2012, and his hopes of returning to the MotoGP series full time. The American is still working closely with Crescent, and could either join MotoGP with Suzuki - if the Hamamatsu factory decide to stay in the series for next year - or possibly join Lucio Cecchinello's LCR Honda squad as the second rider to either Andrea Dovizioso or Randy de Puniet. Should Suzuki pull out of MotoGP and his other options fall through, Hopper looks most likely to switch to the World Superbike series, effectively riding for the same team, as Paul Denning's Rizla Suzuki team is also working on a WSBK entry as a backup, should MotoGP no longer be possible.

Below is the press release from the Rizla Suzuki team announcing Hopkins' wildcard at Sepang:

"I am really pumped to get this chance to ride in a MotoGP race with the Rizla Suzuki team. I thought after Brno that I wouldn't get the opportunity again and was really disappointed that I missed out there due to a silly mistake, so to be heading to Sepang is fantastic.

"Again I need to thank everyone at Rizla Suzuki for giving me this opportunity and my Samsung Crescent team ? I hope that by the time I get back on the MotoGP bike we will have been celebrating something really big at Brands Hatch!"

Paul Denning ? Team Manager:

"We'd intended to give John at least one outing on the Rizla Suzuki Grand Prix bike this year and we're delighted that he'll join us in Malaysia to form a two?man team with lvaro. Sepang is one of John's favourite tracks and also one that the GSV-R has performed well at in the past. What happened in Brno ? with John's injury ? and the way he has worked so hard to come back from it, and challenge for the British Superbike Championship, has only reaffirmed his commitment to success and getting back to the top level. Let's hope at Sepang we manage to line up at the start of the race with two Rizla Suzukis and that lvaro and John can show what they and the team are all capable of producing."

Racing numbers: Grand Prix of Japan

299 ? Casey Stoner?s win in Aragn was the 299th podium finish in the premier-class for Australian riders.

284 ? In spite of having a non-score at the Spanish GP earlier in the year, when he was knocked off by Valentino Rossi, Casey Stoner?s current points total of 284 is just three points less than he had accumulated at the same stage of 2007 when he took his first MotoGP world title.

99 ? The victory by Marc Mrquez at Aragn was the 99th victory for Spanish riders in the intermediate-class of Grand Prix racing. Spanish riders won 85 times in the 250cc GP class and now have 14 victories in the Moto2 class.

63% ? Marc Mrquez has won 17 of the last 27 GP races that he has started in the 125cc and Moto2 classes, starting at the 125cc Italian Grand Prix last year when he took his very first GP win. This represents a 63% win rate over this 27 race period.

50 ? Jones Folger is scheduled to make his 50th Grand Prix start at the Japanese GP. If he makes the start at Motegi he will become the third youngest rider ever to reach the milestone of 50 Grand Prix starts; only Scott Redding and Jorge Lorenzo have reached this milestone at a younger age.

44 ? On the first day of practice at the Japanese Grand Prix it will be exactly 44 years since the Canadian GP took place at the Mosport circuit in 1967. This is the only time that a Grand Prix event has taken place in Canada and because of the extreme cold weather the 500cc race, won by Mike Hailwood (Honda), was reduced in distance by ten laps, but Hailwood?s winning time was still 1 hr 13 minutes 28.5 seconds. Hailwood also won the 250cc race and Bill Ivy (Yamaha) won the 125cc race.

38 ? Casey Stoner?s victory at Aragn was the 38th GP win of his career. This places him equal 11th in the all-time GP winners list with great rival Jorge Lorenzo and John Surtees who won the 500cc title on four occasions and the 350cc title three times.

33 ? There have been 33 previous Grand Prix events that have taken place in Japan. In addition to Motegi that has been used twelve times previously, Suzuka has hosted a Grand Prix event on 19 occasions and the Fisco circuit has been used twice.

26 ? Dani Pedrosa celebrates his 26th birthday on the day before practice commences at the Japanese Grand Prix.

21 ? Dominique Aegerter celebrates his 21st birthday on the first day of practice at the Japanese Grand Prix.

14 ? Nico Terol?s victory in Aragon was the 14th successive win for Aprilia in the 125cc class. This is the longest sequence of successive wins ever achieved by Aprilia in the 125cc class.

13 ? This will be the thirteenth occasion that a Grand Prix event has been held at the Motegi circuit. The first Grand Prix at Motegi was held in 1999 and the circuit has been used every year since.

12 ? Casey Stoner has finished on the podium at the last twelve successive MotoGP races. In the 63 year history of motorcycle Grand Prix racing only five riders have finished on the podium in more than twelve successive premier class races: Valentino Rossi, Giacomo Agostini, Mick Doohan, Wayne Rainey and Jorge Lorenzo.

9 ? Casey Stoner?s pole at Misano was his ninth of the year; this equals the record for most poles in a single season in the MotoGP era previously achieved by Stoner himself in 2008 and Valentino Rossi in 2003.

4 ? Since the introduction of the four-stroke MotoGP formula in 2002, Ducati have been the most successful manufacturer in MotoGP at the Motegi circuit with four victories. Honda riders have won on three occasions and Yamaha twice.

3 ? The three riders who have had most Grand Prix wins at the Motegi circuit, each having won on three occasions, are: Loris Capirossi (3 x MotoGP), Toni Elias (2 x 250cc, 1 x Moto2) and Mika Kallio (2 x 125cc, 1 x 250cc).

0 ? None of the riders starting the 125cc race at the Japanese Grand Prix have previously won a GP race at the Motegi circuit.

0 ? The number of victories for Honda at Motegi during the 800cc era of MotoGP. Makoto Tamada?s victory in 2004 was the last time that a Honda rider won the MotoGP race at Motegi.

Bloggers - Start Your Engines!

I?m feeling a little violated and vulnerable after my annual health screening yesterday (no more information requires sharing). :) So, to make me feel better about myself, I?d like to pass on to you, dear readers, a recent Aussie Pete ?winning experience?.

Having spent the best part of a decade living in Melbourne, many people scoff at the fact that until recently I had never visited Phillip Island. In fact, when I speak with any of my local Singaporean mates or colleagues about my recent return to Victoria, the first thing nearly everybody asks (even people who have never visited down under), is ?Oh ? did you go to that beach where you can see the Fairy Penguins?? When I respond to the positive, but then explain that it was my first time to Phillip Island, they often are astounded? I think it?s like spending your life anywhere ? it?s often easy to take the most beautiful things for granted.

But enough about the penguin parade ? I?ll save that until a bit later ? one of the absolute highlights of not just the Phillip Island adventure, but of my entire recent trip, was inspired by my ?need for speed?. Not that I?m very competitive by nature. Ok, ok? before you send me emails disagreeing, I?m speaking tongue in cheek ? yes, just like nearly every Aussie, I am extremely competitive. Whether it?s as an arm-chair sports fan watching my favourite footy team, or if I?m participating in any individual or team competition, I hate to lose.

A few months ago, I was lucky enough to spend the day participating in the ?Singapore Adventure Race?, as part of the SPH and OMY ?star bloggers? team. Two of my team mates on that fateful day, were also coincidentally in my Victoria touring group last week - Eunice and Jerome, fellow winners in their respective categories of the 2011 OMY Singapore Blog Awards.

Although both were more than aware of my competitive spirit and my thirst for adrenalin (from our Go-Karting escapades in the Adventure Race ? I wouldn?t be surprised if I?ve been banned for life at the track in Singapore), Jerome still had no qualms attending Phillip Island along with myself, Eric and Valyn. I suspect that Eunice wised up early that any activities involving a race track, a kart that can hit speeds of up to 65km/h and my historical recklessness in a crash helmet, it would be safest to attend one of the other activities on that day.

The world famous Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is 4.445km in length and is home to the annual MotoGP. The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix is one of the premier sporting events on the Aussie Calendar. Riders such as Rossi, Stoner, Pedrosa and Lorenzo are among those who have vied for one of the most sought-after podiums on the world circuit.

So bring in Aussie Pete and the Singapore bloggers!! A brief statistical analysis, Aussie Pete style - Although the MotoGP bikes travel at much greater speeds (up to 320km/h), my mathematics tells me that on an exact replica track of 720 metres (16.2% of the actual GP circuit), to travel at over 20% of the professional motorbike racers? speeds ? pushing myself as fast as the karts will allow, I?m racing up there with the best of them! (double confirmed?) In fact ? and remember this is a replica track ? the track record for the fastest lap in the MotoGP (when it was broken in 2008 by Casey Stoner) was 1'28.665. My best time to complete a lap was just 0?52.760 ? a good 35 seconds faster!!

OK, I know ? so maybe I?m having delusions of grandeur and there should be no such statistical correlation between track length and speed ? but please indulge me a little bit?

What I do know, is that there was never any shortage of inspiration. Upon arrival at the Go-Kart track, we were met with a tribute to the Aussie legend that is the late and great ?King of the Mountain?, Brocky (Peter Brock). My adrenalin levels jumped from 0 to 100 in just a fraction of a second.

After signing ourselves in, we were directed to the track proper, where we were put into a room to watch a safety video and understand the rules of ?engagement?. Although I was a little wary given we learned of the various flags to watch out for ? I specifically noted the red and black ones? warning for infringements and automatic pit for inappropriate behaviour / driving ? I was still closely watching my competitors. There was a winner?s look in Eric?s eyes that I was a little nervous about.

Donning first our hairnets and all looking a little like staff at Bakerz-In, we were fitted with our helmets, before being shown to our pre-assigned vehicles. Already the competitiveness was coming out ? I was crossing my fingers that I would be in the lead kart, which would provide less hassle than having to try to overtake the rest of the field on the first straight. I was not to be disappointed ? I was placed at the top of the grid in go kart - ?lucky for some? - number (legs) 11.

BLOGGERS ? START YOUR ENGINES!!

And off we go? out of the pits and hitting the straight immediately with my foot flat to the floor, it took no time to reach the maximum speed that the kart would travel (65km/h) and although I did take the advice of the knowledgeable circuit staff and took the first lap a little easier, so as to understand the respective bends and the effect of the damp track on the tyres, the second lap saw me having a level of excitement akin to that of a ?pig in mud?.

My first task was to draw in the field. Starting at the front of the grid, it was imperative that if I was to get the liberating feeling of overtaking one of the other bloggers, I would need to reel them in as quickly as humanly possible and actually lap them.

It didn?t take long! Although the whole idea of the race is not who starts and finishes first ? the winner is actually the driver with the fastest lap time clocked in the 10-minutes of racing ? I couldn?t help myself. First, it was Valyn? taking advantage of her spin-out on the hair pin bend, I swiftly passed by her on about the 2nd or 3rd lap.

Then it was Eric and Jerome in my sights. Perhaps around a lap later, I found myself pulling alongside Eric just before the hair pin, and then accelerated past Jerome on the mini straight at the back of the track ? now a full lap ahead of all the other drivers.

Was this good enough?? Bet your bottom dollar it wasn?t!!

How many times could I lap the others? ? this was the ?raised bar? challenge which I set for myself. In the end, I completed 9 laps in the 10-minutes, with a fastest lap time of 0?52.760. The next fastest lap time was set by Jerome at 1?00.860, who completed 7 laps of the circuit. Third place went to Valyn who, although she completed on lap less than Eric ? 6 laps and 7 laps respectively ? edged into the bronze standing with a fastest lap time of 1?01.347 and Eric at 1?01.848.

Based on these numbers, the competition was actually quite ?hot? between the three Singaporean ?Lims??. Hmmm ? no folks, they are not related. All three finished with a fastest lap time within 1 second of each other.

Still shaking with adrenalin and pumped up and ready for more speed, I asked our tour guide and driver, Tony, to throw me the car keys so that I could drive the rest of the way around Phillip Island ? I have never heard five people (Wei Ding from OMY included) all shout ?NO!!? in unison so loudly. What the!!?? ? Don?t trust my driving abilities?? ? Or was it, perhaps, the champagne celebrations on the podium later that had everyone so worried about letting me behind the wheel of a real car?

In all ? a brilliant time, which I cannot recommend enough! I cannot wait to go back ? absolutely the best go karting experience I?ve had in my entire life!!
