ACEM & FIM pledge to strengthen co-operation

23/09/11 - 15:12

Motorcycling to benefit from common strategy in sport, leisure and mobility

ACEM and FIM identified matters such as sport, leisure and mobility on which to increase joint actions for the benefit of motorcycling. During a meeting that took place on 15 September 2011 at the FIM Headquarters in Geneva, ACEM, the European Motorcycle Industry Association and FIM, the International Motorcycling Federation, expressed the need for more co-operation in order to promote motorcycling worldwide.

The association representing manufacturers of motorcycles (and other light vehicles such as, scooters, tricycles and quadricycles) and the world governing body for motorcycle sport share the same vision based on sustainable sport, leisure and mobility. Already cooperating with other stakeholders within the Motorcycle Community, ACEM and FIM agreed on the importance of reducing costs for teams and individuals wanting to participate to competitions at all levels of motorcycle sport.

Given the important link between sport, innovation and the market, the FIM and ACEM will seek to develop synergies towards a commonly shared long term strategic vision, considering leisure, mobility and sports as interconnected activities which need to be addressed simultaneously.

ACEM Vice President and KTM-SportMotorcycle CEO Stefan Pierer said: ?In these times of economic crisis, motorcycling as we know it is undergoing deep changes. Motorcycles and scooters are more and more seen by citizens as an attractive solution for mobility. The opportunities coming from urban vehicles and electric mobility are expected to progressively create a new demand. A common vision is necessary to successfully lead the sector into the future.?

FIM President Vito Ippolito said: ?Co-operation on matters of mutual concern is a priority for FIM. Together we can develop motorcycling in both sport and non sport activities. In this difficult economic climate motorcycles and scooters are an attractive solution for mobility. We are also committed to reducing costs in sports for teams and for riders. This will be assisted as we progress to harmonisation of rules across all disciplines. This is another area where our co operation with industry is vital to the future of motorcycling.?
